EcoPVGX - Growatt

EcoPVGX - Growatt inverter

The EcoPVGX is a WiFi stick for Growatt inverters. It replaces the standard Growatt stick (ShineWiFi-X) and reads the same data from your inverter – but sends it not to the Growatt cloud but to ecosensors.cloud. Optionally it also makes the data available directly in Home Assistant.

Technically the stick is based on the original Growatt stick with modified firmware (ESPhome, see the general guide). There are two ways to get one:

  • as a ready-made stick from us, which only needs to be plugged in and connected to your WiFi
  • as a conversion of your existing Growatt stick (do it yourself) – there is a separate guide for this: EcoPVGX - DIY

What you get

The stick delivers all values that the inverter provides:

  • Status of the inverter
  • PV strings 1 and 2: voltage, current and power
  • Grid L1/L2/L3: voltage, current and power, plus total power and grid frequency
  • Yield: today and total
  • Temperature of the inverter

The values appear in your dashboard on ecosensors.cloud.

Compatible inverters

The EcoPVGX works with almost any Growatt inverter that supports the original stick (ShineWiFi-X, USB connector). The following have been tested:

  • Growatt MOD 3-10KTL3-X & XH
  • Growatt MIC 600-3300TL-X
  • Growatt MIN 2500-4600TL-X & TL-XH
  • Growatt MID 11-40KTL3-X & XH

Variants

The stick is available in two firmware variants:

Variant For whom
Standard everyone who only uses ecosensors.cloud
-ha (with Home Assistant) additionally integrated locally in Home Assistant alongside the cloud

A -ha variant must be paired with Home Assistant, otherwise the stick restarts every 15 minutes. If you do not use Home Assistant, take the standard variant. For firmware updates always keep the variant that is already running on the stick.

Installation

The stick is powered by the inverter from PV energy only. Setup and updates are therefore only possible in daylight; at night the stick switches off and delivers no data. This is normal.

  1. If present, pull the original Growatt stick off the inverter.
  2. Plug the EcoPVGX into the inverter's USB port as usual and lock it.
  3. The stick starts as soon as the inverter has PV power. If it finds no known WiFi, it opens its hot spot ecopvgx-<ID> after about a minute.
  4. Continue with the WiFi setup (see next section).

Commissioning

The setup is the same for all sensors of the Eco series and is described in the general guide. With the EcoPVGX your sensor is called ecopvgx-<ID>:

  1. Set up WiFi – connect to the hot spot ecopvgx-<ID>, enter the WiFi credentials
  2. Open the web interface at http://ecopvgx-<ID> or http://ecopvgx-<ID>.local
  3. Register the sensor with the EcoSensor ID (ecopvgx-<ID>)
  4. Pair with Home Assistant – only for the -ha variant
  5. In case of problems: Troubleshooting

Firmware update

The stick sits in the inverter, usually in a hard-to-reach place. A firmware update is possible for the EcoPVGX only via the stick's web interface: the stick can neither update itself (no update button) nor be updated via ecosensors.cloud. You download the update file yourself and transfer it. You do not have to remove the stick; you only need to be in the same WiFi and it has to be daylight.

  1. On the Firmware page, download the update file (.ota.bin) in the variant that is running on the stick (standard or -ha).
  2. Open the stick's web interface and upload the file under OTA Update.

The steps with pictures and the general notes are in the general guide under Way C: upload an update file.

If the stick can no longer be reached via WiFi (Way D)

Only if the stick's web interface cannot be reached at all or an update via the web interface fails permanently, the USB route remains: the stick has to be removed, opened and connected to a computer. The procedure (open the case, set the jumper, flash the firmware) is the same as when converting your own stick and is described in the DIY guide.
